Now, pretty much everyone here will be opposed to this idea, but I've going to give it a go anyway. As I've said from the beginning, Slashdot sucks. Now, since lappy refuses to stop using it, I have another proposal. The thing is, Slashdot just isn't viable at a webiste like this. From the statistics, we can see that in the last 30 threads from Alice from Slashdot, only eleven were actually viewed, and only one of those had a reply in it.

What I propose is that if a Slashdot article from Alice is not read within a certain period of time, such as two weeks after it has been posted, that the thread be deleted. What we have here are four pages of thirty threads each with a total of only around 54 that have actually been viewed, and around 12 that even have a mere reply in them.

This means that people only read the stuff 45 percent of the time, and respond to them 10 percent of the time. Now, I'm sure there will be a lot of controversy about the math I've done, but if you want to challenge the fact that 12 is 10 percent of 120, be my guest, but you're just going to be wrong. Also, no disputing my info, this was the info that was present at the time that I wrote this post.

I agree, the topics aren't used that much, but we still like having them. good idea.

This is a good idea. In fact, I would shorten the deletion time to a point that an article would be deleted as soon as it gets pushed to a point it's not viewable on the first screen. We will actually be able to continue discussing interesting topics in that forum, instead of having them pushed back behind all the new stuff.

I think we need to bump this thread. lappy just keeps on ignoring it. Sooner or later he's gonna have to face the facts, the Slashdot feeds are not beneficial, and this situation isn't even funny anymore. This is a new forum, and the new posts lists are already congested with the feeds from Alice.

I agree, we should have a certain deletion period. Actually, since Slashdot is not read anyway, we need Alice to bring up articles from other sites, like maybe Fox or Newsweek.

That sounds like a good idea, and pretty easy to implement. The only thing I would change is instead of deleting just the ones that aren't viewed, the ones that aren't replied to be deleted too.

Nobody wants "your source," as it's obviously gonna be biased. Slashdot is fine (albeit an over-inclination towards open source and the such). I like your idea about deleting unread topics much more.

I would, but until it's approved, I won't, because then people will be getting info at the same time as me, and they don't deserve to if they're choosing to be ignorant.

what about those of us (like me) who are thinking you sound like a spoony bard or something, ranting on and on about how your source is better, your source is superior, your source is unbiased... if you let people read it, we would have more educated opinions, and be more likely to be for your source.

I've presented info from my source many times before in old KLs, and they always proved to be right, even when people thought they were bogus. So I think it's safe to say that my source is the best.
