ZUNE just came out a bit ago, hooray, and it is probably much better than the ipod, especially with the unique features to it, i'm gonna get one when microsoft store gets it
LucresSerebii
Why wait for the MS Store? It's only $25 off, and you can get the same price at Costco or something.

The Zune Stinks. Especially with the patents Apple has been coming out with.
The general public believes this, as not very many have been bought, possibly because people are buying game systems.

There's a market for media players, but the Zune wont succeed. I've already seen some at a discount of 50$ off the regular price. I mean, it's an unknown, and for the price, we might be able to iPhone (http://appleiphone.blogspot.com/) next year, and the widescreen ipod is looking pretty nice. Especially with the new patent where there is a blank touchpad and people can add things to it. I can imagine apple software for the mac which turns it into a Piano.

Oh yeah, and it's unnecessarily complicated. The marketplace, I mean. Oh and, why would Microsoft develop a system that's incompatible with Vista? (http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=104)

Plus, it's put down by major news stations, etc. And microsoft doesn't exactly have the best reputation.

they are gonna make it compatible with vista, if it isn't
it is good, especially with wi-fi sharing and your own background
and myscrnnm, it might be $50, or 40, either way, i would wanna buy it there cause my dad would only buy it from there for me

I like the zune and plan to ask for one for christmas. The good thing is that with the Wii and PS3 out for the holiday season there is a good chance that it will not that hard to get it on sale.
chuck
the zune's main downfall in my opinion is that it lacks the ability to scroll through large amounts opf music like the clickwheel. also, it will be difficult for microsoft to break the ipod's stronghold on the market.
Zombieman3421
true, and magazines are now contradicting it, which sucks even more
chuck
also, the zune's trademark color is supposed to be turd brown, like the ipod's is white. I do however like the ability to rotate it and view in widescreen.

and sample songs other people have to see if you like it, it seems good, but i hope it makes it through the 1st layer

I like the way that watch a video you can turn it on it's side for a bigger screen. Most of all I like the 250 pirce tag for 30 gygs.

You send ENTIRE OFFICIAL files, which means it's useless. Too many limits.

I saw one, and I don't want it. The 30Gig iPod is $220 for students, and 80 Gb is 270$ (I'm assuming most of us are students). So, it's cheaper than the Zune, and has more features (with addons included).

And the thing is, if it isn't compatible with Vista right NOW that's a BIG problem. iTunes is already compatible.

Till the Zune gets to the point where it's on an even level with the iPod, than it will become a conteder, but it's still late in the game, and it's got a few versions to go before it makes it into the market. The older ipods have not been as popular as the 4G and 5G.

Plus it's a feature tossup.
The couple things the Zune has...
FM reciever
Streaming
Bigger, turning screen
videos are awsome.

But everything is on the ipod except the screen sze, which is exactly the same resolution (zune seems worse because of alpha transperency)...
and steaming (which is pretty useless)
and an turning screen, which I don't think many people care for, especially if they don't have any videos to watch on it.

anyway, the Zune will have a dificult time overcoming ipod as I said before. personally, of you're looking for something other than an ipod, go for a zen.

which zen? cuz i know that the zen micros are supposed to break really easily. you mean physically not internally right?
purrflicta
Creative mp3 players are a tossup. I had a micro that broke in 3 months, another one that broke in 9 months (the 2 lasted exactly a year) but both were internal and not understandable... the sleeks supposedly break after a year but so do most i-pods... so its all a matter of luck i think...

but i love my zen i will say, its really close to the i-pod (only 2 things that i wish it were the same as an i-pod with and they arn't that important) but you don't have to deal with i-tunes and you can take music off it (like load from zen to computer)... and its prettier than the i-pod in my opinion... so...
Native pride
My micro entire back came off and now i can see all the gizmos that make it run.

I have a Zen right now, the micro kind. I've had it for a year through all the wear and tear, still works fine. Right now, I'm waiting for the next generation Sansa players (e300?). I've handled the e200 line and I like it a considerable amount more than the current generation iPods, though there are a few flaws they need to work out (which should be ironed out in the next generation)

Mie works but the ENTIRE bak is back is off. If i did not have the gel cover for it then, it would be useless.

The Zune will be dead and gone in 6 months. I mean for a good versatile Mp3 player, get an archos. The Gmni 402 was 150$ a couple of days ago on w00t. 20gb mp3, videos, pictures, and a 1.2mp camera. Nothing special, but one of them has more functionality than the Zune at a smaller price, and still has 2/3 of the space. Plus it has really nice video time. If you're paying 250, find an archos on sale. It'll be the best thing to get.

Archos is okay, but I've never like the build-quality of their products. So if you want something that's durable, I'd go with the Zune, cuz Microsoft hardware has always been rock-solid, and the Zune is based on the Toshiba Gigabeat, which has pretty good build quality.

I'd still rather get a Toshiba Gigabeat, 30G in White is $200 on buydig,
there's also the Creative Zen Vision : M which runs you 172$ on the same site.

if you mean the Gigabeat S, then I'd get the Zune, cuz it's only a bit more, but has many more features, like 802.11 and the FM tuner.

Also, the Creative Zen Vision M is shit. It looks so ugly, like a ripoff of the fifth-generation iPod. It's like the bastard child of an iPod and a Zen Micro. If I were to get a Zen, I'd get the Vision W, now that thing is nice. I recently tried one out at Fry's, and it was only the second good Zen I've ever seen, after that PMC that Creative had a few years back.

I use a fourth-generation iPod, and for general use, it's okay, including lots of music transferring. But for the more features, the Zune and Gigabeat are the way to go. I've also considered getting a Sony CLIÉ NR/NX, cuz they've also got the PDA functionality and digital camera.

Actually, it's out. Vista has Release Candidate 2 for the public, which is basically a finished version. And many companies have received the final version shipped as OEM on computers.

I dont think the Zune is very good for many reasons.

1. you cant use songs from other places on it, MS has the monopoly
2. Its all Drmd
3. songs cant be given to someone else
4. It dosnt show up as USB Mass Storage.

2. DRM is GOOD thing.
3. Yes, they can (for a limited amount of time).
4. You may have a point there, although I'll ask my friend w/Zune to make sure you're actually right.

For gods sake, it's not compatible with the vista BETA version of Vista. And microsoft dosent have the best reputaion? Look at HALO, 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Conquer, Windows, Office(Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.). And stop posting websites for everything. ANyone can write a website. No, that's bad logic. The Zune has a 30GB estimated capacity. Meanwhile, my fourth-generation iPod, which is also smaller, holds up to 40GB. Not to mention there are many 60, 80, 100GB devices out there of either comparable or smaller volume than the Zune. The Zune isn't large because it has better storage capacities, but because it has electrical components such as an FM tuner, rubberized plastic, et cetera.
