I'm bringing back the Guitar Topic.
REMINDER: This about playing the guitar, not about certain Bands, etc.
And- Does anyone have the TABS to Paradise City by Guns 'n Roses?

I wish i could play the guitar. A friend of mine taught me 5 chords and i forgot all of them. Even what they were... havn't been within reach of a guitar since may, so it isn't surprising...

This year in music class we're learning how to play guitar. Lucky me!
Oh yah LucresSerebii I have the tabs to that song if you want them.

Yeah, that'd be great.

i would like to learn to play bass guitar.

Nov 22 2006, 12:34 PM
That's cool not many people play bass guitar. My band's still looking for one. There's this one band called Counter Coulter Super Heroes, there bassist is amazing, he plays extremely fast.
LucresSerebii do you want me to message a website to find the tabs or just send you them?
Actually never mind because I sent a link in a message.

i saw this video of a guy playing slap-snap bass, which sounds really cool. you use your fingers to pluck the strings so they smack back against the fret board, and then on the off-beats you slap the strings with your thumb.

I know how to play but I don't play anymore.

I'm with you, in the Bass Guitar Search, Holy Shoes. No one likes the bass, I guess. I play guitar, but I would like to mess around with a bass, for the heck of it. Halifax, a alternative rock band, lacks a bassist, they have two guitarists, a drummer, and a singer. So it is possible without a bassist, but the bass is one of the major things in a band, especially in the music I play (punk rock!).

Nov 23 2006, 04:12 PM
Yah, one of our friends baught a bass just to see if he could be in the band with us, but he wasn't very good. So then our guitar player baught a bass so in some songs he plays bass. I know a few bass players but there all like 20 years old. I like the bass, because when it's mixed in with a guitar it sounds really good. Especially when you have a bass player that can play extremely fast.

Yah, I heard that in my school this one kid played bass, but I never talked to her, and one of my friend knows her, so I might get her to talk to that kid and ask if she plays or not.

Nov 23 2006, 04:45 PM
So I'm guessing that your trying to get a band together?
punkrocker45
Nov 23 2006, 04:48 PM
Yah, I got a singer and two guitar players (including me) we need a durn bassist and a drummer. I've really improved on guitar, it's friggin awesome.
Holy Shoes 3
Nov 23 2006, 04:53 PM
That's cool are you taking guitar lessons? Because they might help. I'm taking guitar lessons at school in music class, I stopped drum lessons to save money to get me all new gear, sticks etc.
punkrocker45
Nov 23 2006, 04:58 PM
Naw, I don't take lessons, I teach myself, mostly riffs and soloing. I do know "The Boy Who Destroyed the World" by AFI, though. I need to get a new guitar, I have this Strat, which has horrible tone and horrible single-coil pick ups. I'm trying to get my hands on a Gibson SG or a Synyster Gates Signature Model from Schecter. As for school, we don't have stringed instruments as a choice, but I am first-chair trumpet! Yay me
Holy Shoes 3
Nov 23 2006, 05:02 PM
In band at school the trumpet section had a sectional to see who was first chair and me and this kid richie tied. As for guitars I have a fender strat and an acoustic from like the 60's. I'm trying to get a Les Paul.
punkrocker45
Nov 23 2006, 05:09 PM
Les Paul's are nice guitars. I beat my oppnent for first chair by two points, although your story seems so much more interesting. My strat, isn't a Fender, its a cheap knock-off of a Fender. I don't play acoustic at all, it has never really interested me. My band teacher is gonna go all funny on us because next year, we will be in marching band, and even though it's a fellowship-type thing, no one tolerates key signature mistakes.
Holy Shoes 3
Nov 23 2006, 05:21 PM
That's how a lot of band teacher's are. I don't have marching band untill 10th grade in high school. I'm only in 8th grade. In Jazz band we record a cd at the end of the year of the songs we learned, and if we mess up or make the tinyest mistake we have to stop, but nobody ever does so when we listen to the cd there's usually a few screw ups. They took a picture of the whole jazz band to put on the cd and cut me off all you can see is my shirt. That kind of aggitated me. And also our band teacher invites other famouse jazz players to come in and record with us, and when we're done recording we get the rest of the day at dorney park! I'ts also fun because we get to miss a school day! Yayyyy!

Nov 23 2006, 05:25 PM
Basically, you hit high school and you sign up for band. You get your butt thrown into a marching band uniform if Mr.Brimmer thinks you are worthy. Then, Mr.Brimmer records a video tape of every football game and shows it to the younger kids if you screw up. Also, after football season, he makes the high school players sight read the younger kids concert music and he records them and shows themt to the younger kids. He points out the mistakes and tells about being a good site reader.

Nov 23 2006, 05:39 PM
Yah last year my band teacher Mr. Morris had us after school sit there and play the song while looking not at the paper but near the paper. It seemed kind of pointless to me because everybody looked at the paper and I don't get what that does for us.
punkrocker45
Nov 23 2006, 05:51 PM
Well, that was dumb, and pointless. Mr.Brimmer is eccentric, but the stuff he makes us do has a point. My favorite exercise was when he used a glove and how hard you threw it to represent how strong your air is. It was fun watching the macho trombone players throw like girls, lol

.
Holy Shoes 3
Nov 23 2006, 05:55 PM
lol. This one time we had to sit there for 5 minutes and go sssssssssssssssss and so on. It was to help us blow better. In my school we only have 1 trombone player because the rest went to high school or quit band. He's starting to come up with better techniques to help us out in band.

I'm trying to get together a band, but we only have 2 guitarists (including me) and a keyboard.
Holy Shoes 3
Nov 24 2006, 04:21 PM
Yah for some people it's really hard to get a band together. A keyboard's an interesting touch, a lot of great bands have keyboard players.
(By the way did you get the tabs??)
LucresSerebii
Nov 24 2006, 05:14 PM
Yeah, I got them. Thanks.

Nov 25 2006, 08:14 AM
Yah, band members are hard to find. I changed vocalists, because the one forgot so I had to ask someone else. Then, my other guitar player can't make up her mind if she wants to be in the band or not. If she doesn't I'll have my singer play guitar as well as sing. As for bassist, I might as well try to grow a beard, because I can't find one for the life of me.
Holy Shoes 3
Nov 25 2006, 02:10 PM
lol. Yah our singer sings and plays guitar. Our guitar player mostly plays guitar but in some songs he plays bass. As for me I just play drums but if I have something I think sounds cool I'll play guitar. And sometimes we'll have our guitar player play a bass line on his guitar.

On a side note, I just got an Epiphone Galaxie amp today. I'm so happy
Holy Shoes 3
Nov 29 2006, 05:40 PM
That's cool, I wish I had an amp. Do you have a foot pedal, there pretty cool to use. Our guitar player has like 3 amps, 1 for bass, 1 for my house where we practice, and 1 over his house where we can record.
punkrocker45
Dec 5 2006, 01:17 PM
Naw, I don't have a foot pedal yet...its on my list though

. My amp (as tiny as it may be) can kick out the distortion and volume. I'm not exactly sure which is the best pedal, so I'm doing research before putting money in a crappy investment.
Holy Shoes 3
Dec 5 2006, 03:05 PM
Yah there's 2 different kinds of pedals that I would recommend. I'm not sure of the real names though, I'll ask our guitar player which one he has because it tunes your guitar and has over 30 different distortions. I would say either get the ones with a bunch of different distortions or a wawa pedal.

Well, as my name suggests, I play guitar. I usually stick with free-play on the Pentatonic, I'm more blues/rock/hard rock than anything else. I have a band called Dubious. I am the lead guitarist and back-up vocalist for my band. I have an Epiphone Special SG, and am about to have an Ibanez SZ. I play a lot at my church. I need to post some of my music on here...
Holy Shoes 3
Dec 6 2006, 01:33 PM
That's pretty cool, our guitar player has an Ibenez Iceman, and our singer has a flying v and a Gibson SG. But we don't have back-up vocals, if you could you should put links in your singnature if you ever put your songs on a webpage or website. That's what I did. Oh yah also my band just came out with our first cd called On A Cross. It's pretty cool.
punkrocker45
Dec 7 2006, 01:35 PM
Awesome, I hope everything with your CD turns out right. Are there any cover songs on there, or did you write all your own material?
Holy Shoes 3
Dec 7 2006, 04:00 PM
Well it has all of our songs. We're probably going to make a cd with just covers also.
punkrocker45
Dec 9 2006, 08:43 AM
Cool...I hope that my band can just write our own stuff..I don't really like cover art, because most of the time, the remake sucks. Take "Sympathy For The Devil" great Rolling Stones song, Guns 'n' Roses remade it, I'd rather have to eat twenty boiled eyes, than listen to Gun 'n' Roses edition. As for my favorite cover, it is "I Don't Need No Doctor", which was originally done by Humble Pie, but W.A.S.P remade it, and they did a good job, even though it can't touch Humble Pie's orginial version.
As for a bassist, I found one, but I'm having a tough time in getting my singer to ask this person.
Holy Shoes 3
Dec 9 2006, 09:19 AM
Yah and sometimes you might find a bassist or someone you want in the band and they don't want to be in it, it's sometime complicated to find people who are dedicated enough to even want to be in a band or have time to be in a band. I know one song that many people remake. It's called" Route 66" if you've ever heard of it. I'm not sure who originally made the song but there's about like 9 remakes of it. Some are good and some are bad.
punkrocker45
Dec 9 2006, 05:27 PM
Well, as for the bassist thing, I don't know if this kid wants to be in the band, my 'friend' (whose also the singer, for now) is supposed to ask them...but they haven't done it yet...it's been about 2 weeks.
Holy Shoes 3
Dec 21 2006, 07:03 AM
Finally!!!! We found a bass player! He used to play guitar but since he also knew how to play bass we let him in. He's pretty good, he plays a lot of slayer, and Master of Puppets. He's going to play in the talent show with us. We're going to play Blitzkreig Bop by The Ramones.

Congratulations. More luck than I had, in asking a person to play bass.

For bands, the shortage of bass players and percussionists- and most of all, felxible instrumentalists are the problem. I play guitar and piano at a passable- awesome level. But there really is no one at my age who plays guitar.
Question: Should I ask some percussionist I know but am only an aquaintance with to be in my band?
And another Question: How do you mute your chords withut producing side sound?(electric guitar)
punkrocker45
Jul 20 2007, 02:38 PM
First question, just go for it, you don't know, the person might be really excited to be in a band with you, even if they are just a casual acquaintence.

another Question: How do you mute your chords withut producing side sound?(electric guitar)
you have to be sure that you aren't pulling your fingers at an angle, but straight up. And try to play as smoothly as possible. Also, if you have a Fender then it makes it a little harder to do. But personally, I love my Strat, and you can't eliminate the sounds.
