There is a music service online called limewire. It is free and people post there songs there and people download them. It has a huge a library has nearly every song you can think of. Pretty sweet huh. Only one problem it is illegal. I would post a link but then there is a chance i could get in trouble for helping people find it. What do you think of it?

Not like a five second Google search is much harder anyways.

I stick with what I've said above. There are quite a few unknowns that put their music up on Limewire to get people tuned in to them. Try checking those people out sometime instead.

Heh my friend and I have limewire pro (we downloaded it off of limewire, why spend the money any way?)

Oh come on, djbob, resorting to pointing out grammar mistakes? tongue.gif Its not as if it was something that would obstruct an intelligent discussion from taking place...

And nowhere in my post did I mention using Limewire for personal illegal purposes. I simply stated that it would be bad to say "Hey, look, guys, you can download illegal stuff off this!" and post a link on Krazyletter.

Well, I would like Native Pride not to make a point to everyone that it is used for illegal purposes. Because I do know that it can be used legally.

DjBob is right, that is pretty hypocritical, especially when I can tell people some of the songs you downloaded....

Oh, and P2P isn't illegal, I agree, but people don't do anything but use it for illegal purposes. If you're using limewire and like the music library, I recommend downloading Limewire Pro (just search using limewire) or Cabos. I personally find the biggest library on Morpheus, but it's sort of cluncky. The best is Cabos, just because it searches Limewire in lightweight, non-clunky browser, that in my opinion looks better.

Oh and if you're using it for music videos for this, I don't recommend limewire for this, I recommend stealing it off Yahoo music, because it's better quality and a faster download. Lyfox or a script will get you the mms link, and it's yours to do from there.

Videos are easy enought to find on dailymotion and youtube and bolt, and other such sites, so just download those in .flv, and convert it using any method you want. Personally, I just use Videora iPod converter for everything, but the best is probably ffmpeg, and if you can't use it I like the whole videora series for portable devices and the things based off of it (like Wii Video 9 and PS3 video 9). Or you could use bittorrent, but a limewirelike service is not good for videos.

I've looked into this a bit, so you could always pm me if you need info.

I found fortress of attitude randomly, but it's really hard to see popularity on those kind of websites. It's really all that myspace is good for, and places like garageband.

Uh... no guides sleep.gif

Eh, you could say you use P2P for only illegal purposes, but I use it because it's convinient (though I have my share of bootleg that I plan on hopefully paying for sometime). The most notable stuff being Tremulous (based on the Q3 engine), Enemy Territory (also based on the Q3 engine), True Combat Elite (Enemy Territory Mod), Starcraft (I bought it legitimently years ago, but I've lost the CD), and Starcraft Patches (can't auto-update on Transgaming Cedega and WINE). It's very convinent for those who host their projects on low-bandwith servers.

That is what makes Limewire bad. Also I heard that it slows your computer down.

That's only if you get spyware off of it. Which most people using LimeWire probably will.

Clarification: We delete stuff that could get KL in trouble, like guides on how to get illegal electronic material. However, this topic is about the legality of programs such as Limewire, and alternative legal content that is shared on programs (actually, Limewire is only a client), of Gnutella/Bittorrent/etc. People saying that they use things like Limewire won't get us in trouble, just as RaptorJesus's talks of possibly using illegit substances won't get us into trouble, either.

Yes, I know, technically, if you only post links to illegal stuff, you can't get in trouble, but those sites are already shady. As long as it doesn't turn into a conversation about: "OMG, how can I get illegal stuff", or "here's how to get illegal stuff", it's fine. If any moderator has the time, please split off the posts about moderation on this topic.

Also, if you don't configure P2P clients correctly, it can potentially saturate your uplink, which will make your internet connection seem slower. A good guide is to set it to no more than 80% of your uplink.

In my personal opinion, Bittorrent is a much better protocol for Peer to Peer Filesharing than protocols like Gnutella (Limewire). It seems to be a bit more efficient at utilizing available bandwidth, and since it takes a bit more effort to share stuff on Bittorrent, there's a lot less crap on there. Plus, the files that people download often (with more peers and seeds), will have a higher chance of not being spyware/virus infested. Overall, I'd prefer Bittorrent. What Client? Azureus.

Its not illegal retard, its only illegal if you do illegal things with it. Plus getting Limewire Pro off limewire is probably the most stupid thing you can do.

Cabos

Is better - for me anyway. It takes up very little CPU usage, and also runs on the gnutella network (like limewire), so, you get all the stuff that you would get on limewire, but for less CPU.

Cabos is more pleasant to the eye, and it is completely free.

See? He agrees with me!
And it's still useless for videos, unless you're getting inappropriate stuff, in which case I'm sure you can find tons of fast downloads.

Five second google search?
It's really hard to find a song on google without the know how. Most people are better off searching through a google "hacker". So, try out http://www.g2p.org/
See, you'll find a lot more. For example, i found this in a few seconds

QUOTE(Wikipedia)
"Ian" or "Iain" is the Scottish Gaelic version of John. It is a very common name in much of the English-speaking world. In the UK, Ian was the 19th most common male name, taking account of the whole population (over 300,000 Ians in total). However, it has disappeared from the top 100 male baby names. In the United States, however, it is now becoming more popular, currently at number 68 in the baby name charts. Many notable people in many different walks of life have been given it as a first name, the most notable translated version of the name 'Ian' is 'Yanis' or 'Ianis'. Either is accepted in Greek or Spanish.

Guys, i don't know about you guys but im not going to pay a buck a song on Itunes when i can get it for free on limewire, and someone has to BUY the CD to rip the songs to limewire to let thousands of people download it for free. I don't care if it's illegal, there's like no way you can get caught, and that tax 5 dollar tax the music industry is trying to add, to pay for the illegal songs you download, (whether or not you do!) has no chance of succeding.

What does somebody pay for when s/he buys a CD? The process of making and burning a CD is cheap and easy, and should only cost a few cents. What you pay for is a license for your use of the CD. It's like buying a ticket to a movie theater. It pays for one person, not all your friends.

Chances are that you won't get caught, but the RIAA is really good at being really harsh and really scary.

I really don't care whether or not it's illegal either, but people worked hard to make that music and real fans wouldn't mooch off of their favorite artists if they could avoid it.
