They encourage spamming. Hide them.

Sí señor. I agree. Although maybe we could implement another system, like a reputation score or something... maybe based off how many "friends" someone gets. Wait... that sounds like MySpace! Eek! Nevermind.

I fully agree. They would be fine but there will always be dumb people who think that higher post counts mean respect or higher status or something and therefore make stupid posts in order to increase them. A way this could be done right now while there are few members and time to do this is turn off post count incrementing in all forums and then set everyone's counts back to 0. Hiding them is fine too, but I see a slight possiblity for stupid threads like "LOL WATS UR POST COUNT LOL!!!1!" if members are allowed to see their own so if you are going to hide them, hide them from everyone, even the members themselves. Keep in mind there are random places where post counts of a member pop up like the member list and the "My Controls", so I think disabling post count incrementation would be necessary.

That's included in hiding post counts. It hides it from everyone... even your own. IPB has this function.
EDIT: It would be a good idea to disable friends as well.
EDIT2: Oh, it would be a matter of editing a few skin files to completely remove post counts wouldn't it?

The friends is a bit integral to this new release, as it's basically your "PM Contact list". It would take a bit of effort to find all the references to "friends", and remove them. Although, I could probably remove it from the member profile.
The post counts have been hidden; although the pips will still increase, and if you really want to find the number of posts someone has, you can view it in their profile. How's that?

That's fine, I guess. Honestly, I don't like post count altogether.

Meh... leave it like this and see if people still spam. And about the pips... why not just give every normal member a nice banner that says "KL MEMBER" and the title of "Member", and the staff gets "KL STAFF" and whatever title, instead of that "Cien Member" "Ultra Member" thing...

I left it there as more of a general indicator of how much a person posts, and therefore how much you would expect to see the person. The pips are more of a approximate indicator; anyone (without trying fairly hard) wouldn't really know how many posts a person has (concretely), only something to the point of: Few (may not know the rules well), moderate (should know the rules), and very active (should expect to see them very often). As I said, if you really want to know how many posts someone has, you can (by looking at their profile). Thus, you have a general indicator of how many posts someone has (as an indicator of knowledge of the rules/habits of the forum), and a concrete number (if you must know). Nobody will go around clicking on everyone's profile to see how many posts they have (except maybe myscrnnm).
Hopefully, I have not made any errors in judgement when deciding this.

Even if you do remove it from the profile, there's always the search function. Search for all the posts by a member and count how many pages show up.

Exactly. All we are doing is increasing the amount of effort it takes to find someone's post count. As long as it's not too easily flaunted, I don't see a problem with keeping them.
Hollow

The more effort it takes, the less amount of people willing to go that far. Just keep it the way it is now to see how it goes, as leftylink said.

But the title can't be taken away. Yet, it shows how many posts a member has.
Hollow
Nov 10 2006, 07:58 PM
The titles can be just set to one general title, rather than "Mil Member" or "Gold Member" to indicate how high up in post count you are.

Nov 10 2006, 09:26 PM
Or just have a few titles for the low post counts (up to 100?), and then have everyone after will have the same one (or be able to change it at that point to something custom)
Just one problem with this "hide posts" idea:
http://discussion.krazyletter.com/index.ph...sort_order=descAnd I'm sure anyone with the time could search for posts on a member by member basis and check the number of search results

We'll see how the general attitude towards post counts is after this current change; maybe we'll hide that too if necessary.

This system is very gay, because when I want to find out someone's post count, I have to either go to their profile (which totally goes against Mynck's philosophy, since profiles get view counts, very MySpace-ey by his logic) or go to the Members list, which involves a lengthy process.

1) As myncknm said, you don't get the point (post counts are not important)
2)
