Isn't Acer making a $250 or $200 laptop anyways?

However, I saw a demo of the OLPC at the Linuxfest in May. It was pretty cool.

They had to remove the crank, as it put too much torque on the case. But thats the one. http://laptop.org

so how do they power it?

OLPC = One Laptop per Child

It's a fairly interesting design, and a fairly low price. It's very innovative.

They're now on sale. You can still buy one from now til December 31st. If you buy one starting now it will come simetime february/march 2008:

I ordered one a while ago. My reasoning was this: its a WIFI enabled laptop which converts to an ebook reader. It has EXCELLENT battery life: ~6 hours+ with color screen and constant usage, 10+ hours with monochrome screen/reading. Its also incredibly rugged: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBoghPvyhts

You can splash water on it, drop it in the dirt and brush it off and it will still work.

A tablet/laptop thin client thats rugged at $400 was too damn tempting.

And the fact that I'm also giving one to a child in a third world country!
