Police-cameras have become a very common sight in the UK. And now, the BBC is reporting that there is strong interest in giving these cameras a speaker, so as the camera operator can announce out to someone to stop doing something.

These public telescreens are functionally identical to the ones found in 1984. What next?

I have heard of these cameras.

Advocates for the cameras use evidence that crimes have decreased to support them. The technology behind these cameras is actually very interesting. They are developing software to be capable of tracking subjects from camera to camera and identifying fugitives, runaways, missing persons, etc.

At the moment, I think these cameras could be a good thing, but then again, I am not subjected to them wink.gif.

Unauthorized phone line tapping x 1000 anyone?

Yeah, I never did agree with that. Bush just signed a bill to give him unwarranted snooping in something else, too, but I can't quite remember what it was.

If I was as stuck-up as KC I would probably fine you for that. Then again, you're a Hindu, so probably not.

The connection to 1984 is a bit sensationalistic, don'tcha think?
