Yeah it's crazy. Timebandit told me this was once a popular place. Seeing the post dates you go and figure its gotten quiet in here. I wish I could explain how things like this happen but I can't. Did the mods and admin leave too?

Well I can see it's one neat place, looks like y'all had fun. But I've seen old dedicated game forums, where I really wanted to post, didn't even have a post since 1999, and I was just fixing to reply to a topic. I guess things like this just happen. I call it, the Ghost Forum.

Times change, people join because they're friends join, or they find it interesting. When they see no one posting since a long date, they figure no one will even come back to the forum, so they leave. Forums are like parks, when people see a friend there, or a new toy, they go there. But, if everything is old, worn down, and empty, no one cares.

Maybe some advertising would help? I really don't much more to say, just good luck to all of you.

Oh-ho-ho, what a coincidence. I only check in every-so-often, and today, there happens to be a thread about inactivity. I can't help but to post. I discussed this with djbob a bit ago and we decided it was the result of a domino effect that started near the beginning of this board thanks to lappy512. Everyone's tired of it.

What happened there?

I've been wondering the same things. I (usually) check every day for new posts, but lucky if there's only new posts in like one thread. And it's usually in something I really don't care. There just was a Hiroshima here one day and since then we've been dying like flies in a blender...

Yessems, let's discuss the theory behind the death of a forums.

Well, let's start out by listing what a forum needs in order to proliferate.
1. Traffic (not necessarily posting)
2. Incentive to post (interest)
3. Server

Well, we've got the server covered. The first need is somewhat lacking though, and the second is severely lacking. There are two types of traffic: newbie traffic and regular-visitor traffic. Newbies are less likely to post in any considerable volume, but it is easy to get newbie traffic through simple promotions like advertisements. Regulars are drawn in by loyalty, which also creates interest. And as Aqua Roach noted, activity is crucial in creating interest. If there's nothing to respond to and no reply to anticipate, there's not much reason to post at all.

KL at birth had a class newspaper. That was not traffic in any large volume, but it was a loyal following, built around friendships and acquiantences. More than likely, it was also the first exposure many of them had to online forums, thus creating interest. This source of traffic was not viable as its members would quickly be growing up and parting ways, although it did provide a few permanent members (lappy512, me, Korps Commander, myscrnnm). The next main source of traffic was a webhosting promotion. This turned out very good for creating loyal traffic and interest, since many who signed up for the webhosting developed loyalty to the community as they got to know each other, even if they only posted for the webhosting. The webhosting didn't last, but it did manage to retain a few loyal members. A central source of interest near the end of and after the webhosting period was our member myscrnnm, who held very controversial views, and was somewhat arrogant about them. People came back just to argue futilely with him, shocked and amazed by his very unorthodox opinions. It certainly generated a lot of activity, which created more interest, since people found more to talk about. And it was like that for a long time, the end.

Yeah, last summer you could stay on here for like an hour, and people would just keep posting. Maybe someon could advertise or something?

@mynknm: Half of the permanent members you mentioned who brought in people to argue with them, ironically, also drove everyone away and left after they were done.  Lappy512 is to blame for letting them run around like the little bigots they are.

Advertisement? That would only create newbie traffic as I mentioned earlier, which we might not want. We have near enough active members to be an active board. Look, less than 24 hours went by and 7 different people already replied to this. What we need is more interest, something to talk about.

We have a few options here.
1. Controversy
2. Event
3. uh... I'm out of ideas.

We could start up the Creationism vs. Evolution debate again... that brought a lot of activity.

Or we could bring up and talk about how cool I am.

Is it during the summer or school where there is more activity?

just try to get all your friends to join. i got native pride to come, and that wasn't hard at all.

What we all need to find is something we all can discuss. It could be history, events now, or even a online game we can all play. Just some ideas

Yeah, just look at Acecombatskies. It's based on things everyone loves and everyone knows and can relate to it. Very convenient.

That's like the fifth time that's been done, and it won't help. HerLoss needs to be brought back, Lappy512 should be kicked out of the admin position, a successful tactic to counter retardedness should be used (see my methods of dealing with excessive rule-breaking), and much controversy must be caused. This is why I suggest we use the Old Old KL nowadays. It's still working, and Ronald McDonald pwns Lappy512.

Because, we are talking about something. We need a bang! Everyone should put there heads together and think of something everyone on this board likes, maybe even design our own game [duh, skillz required] or make something cool. A discussion board needs, well something to discuss!

Lappy512 has done a greatjob as an administrator. if too much enforcement of rules is used and there is too much moderating the forum will become boring. sometimes it is better to just let controversy and arguments happen.

LAPPY512 MUST PAY. lappy512 is like the French, a coward. He's let KC and myscrnnm do whatever the hell they want and has done nothing to circumvent it. lappy512 lacks vision and forethought and refuses to change. The only way to reform KL is to give it a new leader, one who isn't a complete moron.
