Rolling Stone ranks Jimi Hendrix as the greatest guitarist of all time, but it's got to be Eric Clapton or George Harrison. Sir Paul is definitely the greatest bass guitarist of all time.

It can't be either... they only used standard guitar playing. Sure they made up tunes and played the guitar, but they never revolutionized guitar playing. Jimi Hendrix changed it forever - with his sharp and almost anti-harmonious guitar sounds he changed the face of modern rock as well as other genres.

Bob Dylan is always going to be one of the best, if not THE best song writer of all time. Tim Armstrong from Rancid has a solo project, although I haven't heard any songs by him yet...Dashboard Confessional is the name of Chris Carrabba's solo project, he writes great lyrics too. Rob Zombie, great man, great man. John 5, awesome guitar player, played for Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie. Joe Satriani, Stevie Vai. All great solo artists. Todd Rungdren, he's pretty cool too. Boy George, one of my heroes, had a solo career after Culture Club disbanded.

THE best song writer of all time would probably have to be Sir Paul McCartney. John Lennon gets most of the credit, but Paul wrote most of the influential stuff.

No offense to any Beatles fans, but I'm not really big on their music, I don't hate them, but I'm not going to say they are my favorite either. By no means am I going to trash the Beatles, considering how successful they are and I'm not that ignorant...Just for some reason, I'm not a giant fan.

Well, since we're on the topic of solo artists anyway. Out of all the Beatles, I'd say that George Harrison was the greatest songwriter as a solo artist.

Jerry Cantrell from Alice In Chains, did some solo stuff after Layne Staley died, but I haven't heard any yet. Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and Audioslave did some too. Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave does solo work under the name "The Nightwatchman".

I liked Serj Tankian's debut as a solo artist with the song "Empty Walls". I think that the seperation of System of A Down is sad, since their music was so great. But I think it could also be a chance for him to give us something better.

You all might want to throw tomatoes at me, but I really don't like Elton John, he bugs me. Prince, now that is a great solo artist, how many genres has he dabbled in? Plus, "Purple Rain" went Diamond, not gold, not Platinum, but DIAMOND. George Michael, got to love the "Faith" album, another album that went Diamond with 13 million sales, and still selling!
