So, what are your favorite local band(s)...
Or your favorite bands from washigton if you live elsewhere...
I'd say mine is modest mouse...
This poll has bands from a wikipedia list , and is split because there's a max number of options...
So, I put as many as I could fit.. . post if there are any others that you like... I have no idea what music half of these bands/singers play...

Even though this is a huge step up from the last poll about favorite bands, it does not have any of my favorite bands on it. Also, Jimi Hendrix is an artist, not a band.

I would say Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, some Led Zepplin. Also The Crash Pillows(my band) I'm not bragging or anything but I think one day soon we'll be in the top bands or something. Actually I'm sure of it cause we play at malls, talent shows, parties, you name it. I just hope it happens.

Actually, there was the Jimi Hendrix Experience...he also did solo stuff, but his main band was The Jimi Hendrix Experience. My favorite bands are Avenged Sevenfold, AFI, UnderOath, The Misfits, Rancid, and The Ramones.

Just as long as they don't get signed to a major record label... I heard that can completely kill a band. Victory Records is pretty bad too.

Well, I think that they got 4 votes so far says something about that.

Major labels, in my opinion, don't really ruin the band. In my opinion, what ruins the band, is when A. they forget their fans and where they came from B. They act like they are superior, because they are famous or, C. When the band totally reinvents themselves in a bad way (i.e Hootie and the Blowfish). If a band I like signs to a major label, and they still produce good music, I'll listen. If the band signs to a major record label and they produce sucky music, I won't listen. Labels mean nothing to me, I just want good music. Take AFI, when they did their last record for Nitro, Black Sails in The Sunset, they began changing, slowly getting rid of the shouting over aggressive punk (which is good in some cases) to singing over very intricate musical parts (also good, in my opinon). When they signed to Dreamworks, they put out Sing The Sorrow. The songs on this were slower, but still good. I didn't care that they went to a major label. Heck, Sing The Sorrow was the first AFI album I got, then I went back to the older stuff (i.e. Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes). I wasn't ticked off that they left behind their old style...I like both of their styles. Davey can shout, sing, and scream; Jade can still play punk guitar, but he plays other styles too; Adam, is still a great drummer, regardless of the tempo or style; and Hunter is still an amazing bassist. Even if they change their style when they go to a major label, they still possess the old skills they used before.

Well the things about major labels is that they might take over creative control, or enslave unsuspecting bands by means of debt and contract.

Yah that's true, there is a local band a few blocks away from my house and they got discovered by some company I've never even heard of. But anyway they started out sounding really good but once they signed the contract they turned into a Metal band when they started out as pop rock. So then they broke up. But this happened years ago, there like in there early 30's or something now.

Yeah, Soundgarden is cool. But I think Modest Mouse is too. Death Cab for Cutie is better than them both though.
I think one of the most important things to me in music is sincerity. The band/person has to sound like s/he/they really mean it. Take Green Day for example. Their old music seemed sincere enough. Their latest album is just playing up to the "punk" stereotype though. It's not real artistic expression. They just want their album to sell.

Dude, The Beatles wrote with sincerity. They wrote from the heart and used that to sell their music. In this day-and-age, people want to listen to emo crap and whatnot. They don't give a shit about quality. If someone tried to write like The Beatles today, people would say that they're gay.

Emo isn't music. It's noise.
